Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira has requested Power Minister Ramkrishna Sudin Dhavalikar to depute additional personnel to address issues in Aldona constituency due to paucity of staff.
He was speaking at the laying of the foundation stone for the work of conversion of existing overhead 11KV Aldona-I, Aldona-II, Bastora and Pomburpa feeders emanating from 33/11 kv Nachinola sub-station to underground system in Sub Div III, Div-IV, Mapusa.
Those present at the function were Dhavalikar, Former Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar, Chief electrical engineers Stephen Fernandes, panchayat members in the constituency, officials and other dignitaries.
“I have known Dhavalikar since 1991, he is a personal friend of mine prior to being an MLA and politician. Once a friend, always a friend. He is dynamic, and ensured beautiful roads were constructed in Ponda despite people’s opposition,” he said.
“When he took over the power portfolio, I had apprised him of the frequent power outages in Aldona constituency. He assured me to get the underground cabling work done, and I thank him. I thank him and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for sanctioning this project worth Rs 94 crores, which is the second highest project in terms of sanctioned amount in the state. The project was approved in March-April, 2023, and the entire process was completed in a short span, and credit goes to the chief electrical engineer, Mr Stephen Fernandes. There were many attempts to block this project, but I thank the minister Sudin, the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the officials for going ahead. I also request the Minister to increase the staff for attending to power issues in our constituency,” he said.
Stating that Narvekar’s long tenure as Aldona MLA was the golden period of the constituency, he said, “He stood tall, and fought for the best for the constituency. He has special affection for Aldona. In the same way, I will try to give the best for Aldona, even at the cost of my profession,” he said.
He also requested people to cooperate with the power department’s pruning of branches prior to monsoon.
In his address, Dhavalikar said, “We are going to complete underground cabling in all 40 constituencies. Major power problems will be resolved in the villages. A new sub station in Saligao will take care of power issues in Bardez, including Aldona constituency. 640 transformers are being replaced across the state. We will try to produce at least 150MW in Goa by 2030. That is our vision.”
